The carry-on and checked baggage policies on Amtrak Thruway Services of the 7000 and 8000 number series are determined by the operating carrier and may vary from those of Amtrak.
Each passenger may bring 2 personal items, 25 lbs. and 14 x 11 x 7 inches each, and 2 carry-on items, 50 lbs. and 28 x 22 x 14 inches each, onboard.
Auto Train does not offer checked baggage service, but you may pack baggage inside your vehicle (you may not access your vehicle in route). You are also allowed two carry-on bags per passenger.
For the safety and security of our passengers and employees, Amtrak prohibits certain items onboard trains and/or in checked bags.
If you happen to lose or misplace something on the train or in a station, submit a lost item report here so we can try to help you find it.
To get the most out of your travel experience, use our helpful guidelines when packing. Sleeping car accommodations and suggested baggage quantities are also provided.
Each passenger can check up to 4 bags - 2 free of charge and 2 for $20 per bag, each not to exceed 50 lbs. (23 kg), 75 linear inches (length + width + height).
Baggage over normal size restrictions or requiring special handling, like baby items, bikes, sporting equipment and firearms, may be subject to additional packing requirements and service fees.
